Honey Cake and me...
When I was a little girl my Nana made honey cake for the Jewish New Year and I just loved that cake... then my mother also made it. When I got engaged my Nana gave me a cook book, " The Jewish Home Beautiful" and it had her honey cake recipe in it. She also gave that cookbook to my girl cousins even though their mothers also had a copy. My mother in law also made honey cake, but although it was very good it wasn't as very good as my Nana's was.
Now, years later, after my Nana passed away and my Mom was getting up in years my cousin Claudia in Seattle began mailing us each a honey cake each year. How Mom loved that, how I loved it, too. I would also share it with any of my kids who still lived at home or happened to be home around the holidays.
Mom is gone now ( will be a year next month, can't believe that), I don't have any kids living at home, but on Friday the mailman delivered me a package from Seattle.. a honey cake from cousin Claudia that tastes just like the ones our Nana used to make. Smells good, too. I hope that your New Year gets off to as sweet a start as mine has.
More twitter.com
Okay, now my son Lee Goldberg is on twitter. So if you sign up ( it's free) you can follow me, Lee, my daughters Karen Dinino and Linda Woods. Start using twitter so I can read about what you are doing at different times during the day. Get your family members to do it. It's such a fun way to stay in touch... Got a kick out of Lee who said he didn't think he had the time for twitter and then posted four things in rapid order.
What a sweet story! I have a bunch of recipes for honey cake... but it never turns out the way I want it to.
I haven't made it since Danny was a baby - no time - but buy it at wholefoods instead.
Happy New Year to you.
